The Reconstruction Service

Reconstruction nodes are responsible for turning imagery and sensor data into rich 3D representations of a space. When recruited into a domain cluster, a Reconstruction node can be tasked with compute-heavy refinement of the domain data.

Pose Refinement

While individual mobile devices like phones or headsets can capture data about the physical environment, the data can accumulate inaccuracies due to drift. The problem is that the mobile device has to process the world in real-time, which limits how effectively the spatial algorithms can interpret the exact pose of where the images were collected. During the process of pose refinement, the Reconstruction node looks at the source data without the real-time constraint, and with more computational resources. The output is a second opinion on the pose of each individual datapoint, allowing for better analysis and reconstruction.

Densification

After pose refinement, the Reconstruction node can also output a more dense point cloud better suited for 3D reconstruction. During densification, the dataset is analyzed across frames and time to better understand the scene from multiple vantage points.

Spatio-semantic Downsampling

The Reconstruction node can also analyze and downsample the scene into simple bounding volumes to populate the Semantic Layer of the domain. This extreme downsampling allows for lightning-fast navigation and spatial awareness when you donโ€™t need to sweat the details of fine-grained topography.

Gaussian Reconstruction

The Reconstruction node can also process the domain data to generate a 3D Gaussian Splat (3DGS) of the scene, allowing for photorealistic scene rendering and AI/robotics compatible spatial representation.

Services provided:

The posemesh Reconstruction service analyzes and refines spatial datasets into cohesive 3D representations of a space.

It can refine, upsample, downsample and process domain data to fit the diverse needs and use cases of the posemesh.

Rewards earned:

Performance Rewards are earned proportional to the amount of work performed by the Reconstruction node.

โ€Participation Rewards are sometimes paid out of the Foundation's treasury to incentivize the healthy provisioning of Reconstruction nodes.

Token utility:

Reconstruction service operators stake the token to maintain a reputation, making them eligible to receive work and rewards. The reputation can slashed by the protocol if the operator fails to keep quality standards.
